The metal shop team lead is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean and efficient shop. This position is not a management position, there are no direct reports. However, this person is a leader in both skill, culture and supporting the production team and Operations Manager.
Job Description/Responsibilities:
- Safety first
- Fabricating custom pieces from beginning to end
- Working with team members on coordination, process and best practices
- Have a clear understanding of each project before beginning production
- Communicates with team members, Operations manager, sales manager and project managers regularly
- Maintaining ongoing and productive communication with the operations manager
- Answering questions, teaching and providing support to team members regarding production
- Ensuring routine maintenance on tooling and equipment is completed by the metal shop
- Vendor support of relationships relevant to the metal shop
- Maintaining a tidy and safe work environment for yourself and the team. Team leads set the shop standards for the rest of the team
- Timely communication for all questions, comments or concerns
- Working with the Purchasing Coordinator to maintain accurate inventory
- Maintaining the department SOP
- Working with QC Lead to ensure all metal projects meet quality standards.
Expectations:
- Attend team meetings
- Punctual for shifts
- Work with the operations manager on training of new employees
- Lead by example and set the expectations for all team members in your department
- Keep an eye on day to day happenings on the shop floor
- Prompt communication regarding any concerns or issues with the Operations Manager
- Positive attitude and open communication
- Willing to receive/give timely and appropriate feedback
