A Perfect Pairing

A Perfect Pairing

Posted by Lindsay Remley on

At the heart of all projects this beautiful is a perfect pairing of vision, collaboration and execution. Our first project with the team at Design Well Spent Co. to build furniture and fixtures for a restaurant and cafe they designed for DeLille.  To fully understand how this space came to life, we chatted with Design Well Spent Co's Senior Designer, Tiffany Rattray, about how they approached the design, challenges in the space and the final product.  We can't wait for you to see (and taste) the magic.

"Through a blend of French inspired elegance and contemporary details, we aimed to create a space that not only showcases DeLille’s storied history but also invites guests to become part of the narrative. Warm earth tones of burgundy, deep greens, and warm browns envelop guests in the cozy ambiance of wine country," Tiffany shares.

Fixtures: Host stand, retail table and private tasting bar

We asked Tiffany at Design Well Spent Co. "what are your favorite pieces we built?" and no surprise she shared: "the retail table, host stand and tasting room bar counter came out completely as envisioned. The unique, curved details on the host stand and the tasting room bar counter were executed flawlessly and really bring the designs to life." We agree.

There are no shortage of details on the retail table: cubbies, drawers, brass tip rails and custom brass feet.

"Dark and intimate, the tasting room is the antithesis of the main dining area just on the other side. From the building’s exterior, semi-sheer burgundy drapery offers a peek into the elusive space," Tiffany shares.  Check out a behind the scenes of building this tasting table in walnut with a dark burgundy stone top that matches the deep and moody space.

Curves, sliding doors and a rich dark top are the details that make this piece so special.

The host stand features curves, storage and creates the perfect warm welcome to guests when they arrive.  We always say "first impressions matter", this one does not disappoint!

All the tables

Originally a large open space, the design teams greatest opportunity was "we could create several different dining experiences within one larger space, which worked well with the day to night program of the restaurant," Tiffany shared.  So our team had the opportunity to build a variety of tables to achieve this; white washed ash tables for the solarium, deep walnut and variety of stone tables to for the private tasting room and a light and bright space for the main dining room- different tables for different spaces.

Our team loved the variety of table shapes as well: square, rectangular, elipse, tombstones and long community tables.  This variety of shapes adds so much visual interest to the design as well.

"We are really proud of how each of the separate areas work together as one," Tiffany shared.

The Power of Partnership

Our team loved working with Design Well Spent Co. to build these custom pieces and tables to help round out their design of the restaurant.  Tiffany shared "We put a lot of thought into each material and design detail when we design custom furniture for our clients. We want to make sure the designs are executed as we imagined them and how we represented them to our clients during the design process."

Having a clear design intent and vision helps our team understand exactly what the client is expecting and helps us make suggestions for manufacturability and budget management. We asked Tiffany "How did our collaboration help you achieve the final result?"  Tiffany says "they were great collaborators, helping us reach our budget targets by recommending alternative materials or design details (if needed) to stay within budget. All of this work ahead of time led to a successful project installation."

Our team always provides extensive shop drawings to assure our partners vision is in line with our build.  The tasting table bar is such a beautiful piece, even in parts ;)

Behind the Build: scenes from the shop floor

While the restaurant is beautiful, the team at Design Well Spent Co. had a much larger overall role in the final result.  Tiffany shared the full scope of her teams involvement:

"In addition to the Interior Design scope, we also acted as Construction Manager on the project and the sourcing team. This meant that we were involved in the project from start to finish with the client. This was critical in making the project come to life just as the renderings imagined. We helped the client manage costs without sacrificing design, construction, and fabrication quality.

Additionally, our Brand Studio was brought onboard to work with DeLille’s broader
marketing and wine making team to re-imagine the branding of DeLille and their wine collection. With this being developed at the same time as the new restaurant design, we were able to collaborate in-house, making sure the restaurant design complimented the new branding direction, and vice versa. We even brought elements of the new brand identity into a custom wall covering in the Solarium!"
