When Brian + Leah started building their home in Bexley, they wanted to build a home they would never want to leave. Mission accomplished. We were thrilled to be able to help them incorporate 7 custom pieces of furniture in 4 different rooms in the home. Leah shares "we are so grateful for our experience with Edgework Creative. It's so easy to work with them - they are thoughtful, artistic, timely, respectful and fun! The quality of the craftsmanship and attention to detail is incredible." Let's take a closer look inside.
THE GREAT ROOM
When you walk into the home you are welcomed with an open floor plan, soaring ceilings and a view straight into the backyard through glass walls in the dining room. The space is cozy and comfortable despite the size and high ceilings.
Dining Table + Bench
The dining set is made from 2 ash slabs measuring over 9 feet long. "The dining table (and bench) makes it so easy to entertain," Leah says. "It's casual and elegant so anything goes." The details of this table are what make it really special. Running the length of the table and bench is a 2" gap and the ash slabs are joined by a series of metal butterflies that create structural integrity but also a beautiful design detail. The base of these tables include a similar gap and are joined by metal sleeve details that again provide structural integrity and design detail.
They are certain to make some pretty wonderful memories at Thanksgiving dinner around this table. "We've loved hosting friends and family and have had 16 kids and adults piled up around the table," Leah shares.
THE FIREPLACE
We wrapped this fireplace in sheet metal and finished it with a wax. They already have a family game of Charades planned for around the fireplace this weekend. Can we join?
THE MASTER BEDROOM
Both Leah and Brian shared that the master bed is their favorite piece in the home! Brian adds that the bed "creates a calm, restful space." This king sized bed, headboard and nightstands are made from walnut and include a decorative and geometric headboard with seamless lighting and technology integration in the nightstands.
Their bedding is layered and cozy from Parachute Home, Coyuchi and The Citizenry. The bed gives the sense that it is floating because of the continuous surface from the nightstands to the platform. Justin from Edgework Creative built this piece and added that "my favorite projects all involve a little extra trust from the client. When there is room to move within a design, it allows for an opportunity to put a little bit of myself in the details of the piece." We are biased, but we think he nailed the details of this piece!
THE OFFICE
Leah and Brian are the busy business owners of Give Yoga and parents to two young children. They wanted a home office where they could stay connected to the business but have the flexibility to work from home in a beautiful and accessible environment. We built them a pair of waterfall desks from ash with metal legs that suspend the bottom of the desk from the floor. It is all about the subtle details in a simple design. We think this seems like a pretty great place to get some work done!
The desk chairs from CB2 add a soft texture and rich color to the office space.
THE DEN
This room is a parents only room- where Leah and Brian can binge watch Netflix and relax at the end of their busy days. The Den is big and required a large shelving unit to not only fill the space but create a space for them to display family photos, objects from traveling and blankets. We designed and built this custom steel shelving unit with inlaid walnut shelves. Adam from Edgework Creative worked on all of the metal components of this project and adds that these shelves "create depth and highlight the height of the ceilings."
Their sofa is from ABC Carpet & Home and the lighting is from Circa Lighting. We asked them the all important question, what are you currently binge-watching? "Living With Yourself and Big Little Lies," Leah said.
FINAL THOUGHTS
"We love everything Edgework created for us and so much of the fun and value is in working with people in your own community. People who get behind causes, care about contributing to the greater good, and work hard everyday. We are deeply grateful for businesses like Edgework Creative," Leah said. Well, we agree. Working with clients that have vision, trust in our design and process and are kind is what makes us jump out of bed in the morning to get to work. This project was a team effort on all fronts. It was a team effort on all fronts- the team Leah and Brian assembled and the team inside our shop. Almost every single person at Edgework Creative had a hand in one of these pieces and it was a favorite project of our team. See you Sunday for charades???
