Ginger Rabbit: a modern jazz lounge

Ginger Rabbit: a modern jazz lounge

Posted by Lindsay Remley on

What can you expect from a visit to Ginger Rabbit?  "Great live jazz, friendly service and the best cocktails in town," shares owner BJ Lieberman.  The newest addition to the Short North Arts District is a jazz lounge featuring craft cocktails and curated snacks.  We were honored to be a part of the space by building the back bar casework and the winding bar top.  Check out all the details that make it such a special place.

We love the balance of the light and bright back bar paired with a dark and textural bar top.

Back Bar Casework

A real showstopper, the back bar is all about the cocktails!  We built this custom arched casework with an antique patina'd mirror backing to showcase all the glassware and cocktail fixin's on simple glass shelving.  It's simple and reflective and a wonderful balance to all the dark drapery throughout the stage and music side of the bar.  Nick from our team built this casework and shares "I love the three continuous arches at the top of the cabinets and the trim details that highlight the shape. It was challenging and fun to get all these details just right."

Try the Coco Loco.  Rye, Campari, Amontillado Sherry, Creme de Cacao and espresso beans.  "It's like a Cocoa Boulevardier," Lieberman shares.

Bar Top

A long winding top made of Ash, over 40 feet long, snakes throughout the space with some lovely details.  While large, the bar top features a bull nose edge, rounded corners and a custom door to allow staff to go from front to back of house.  Troy from our team built all of this monster countertop.

Due to the snaking effect of the bar, we created a break and access to the back bar for the service staff.  We built the bar top in one solid piece at the shop and cut the joint on site to make sure it was a perfect fit.  Check out the perfect fit!

"The most nerve racking part for me was cutting the half lap for the hinged server door on site," Troy shares.

It's a pleasure to help bring spaces like Ginger Rabbit to life.  We love a challenging build and its even better to be able to dine in and enjoy a delicious cocktail at the bar we helped build.. Check out Ginger Rabbit for live music 6 days a week, closed on Sundays.  You can make reservations online.
