Table Talk: Designed With Hosting in Mind

Table Talk: Designed With Hosting in Mind

Posted by Edgework Admin on

Let's Talk Tables. We build a lot of them... more than any other piece of furniture. It's our most requested type of project, and no two are exactly alike. So, what's the story of these pieces after they leave our shop?

Get to know our work from a more intimate perspective as we go behind the scenes with some of our custom clients in this Table Talk series.

Custom Made for Life's Celebrations

While tacking a home remodel, the Houser family felt that their new hosting space called for a custom table that could accommodate all of the people they love. We built them a custom table that was designed with their specific space and style in mind. They worked with local interior designer Kelly Scott, @kellyscottinteriors, on this home project which included an adjacent living area. Kelly's work is incredible, so show her some love! Let's see what this family has to share about life with a custom table.

What was the first meal you shared at your table?

The first meal at this table was actually a celebration! I hosted a baby shower for a dear friend and we had a brunch in her honor. I love that the first meal at the table was truly a gathering of family and friends.

What was your inspiration for the style and design of your table?

This table was designed for our new dining room, which is a part of a larger home renovation. We placed a great deal of emphasis on hosting and entertaining during the design process and all of our furniture needed to support that. Our dining room table was truly made to fit the space both in size and style. We wanted a table that would stand the test of time and be large enough for us to easily host our family and friends for holiday dinners and life celebrations. We love the clean lines of the base with the gorgeous walnut top.

How does your table fit your life?

The table gives us the flexibility to host family and friends on a moment's notice, which happens not infrequently!

What's your favorite memory shared at this table?

Well, we've only had the table a couple of months, so we are in the early stages of making memories around it, but I am beyond excited to think about the future memories we will have. I have already volunteered to host Thanksgiving this year simply because I am so excited to host everyone around this table!

What’s your favorite thing about your custom table?

It's hard to pick one thing... so I think I have to say it's a tie for our two favorite things; I love the natural stain and the amazing wood grain that shows through on the walnut top and I also love the clean shape and chamfered edges.

Was the investment in a custom dining table worth it? Would you do it again?

It was 1000% worth it. We would do it again in a heartbeat. This is a table that we will have for DECADES to come and quite frankly, the price point is not that much higher than (or in some cases even comparable to) what you would pay at some of the big box furniture retailers.
