WHAT. A. YEAR. Filled with so many challenges, opportunities and amazing projects. We are recapping our TOP 10 projects of the year, in no particular order (well chronological) because 2020 needs some sort of fairness. In a year marked with so much isolation, it was lovely to notice the theme of this Top 10 list, collaboration. During the year we collaborated on so many projects with so many talented people. A welcome reminder of how much we all need each other and are better when we collaborate. Take a look at these incredible projects.
Verite Dermatology
Collaborating with people like Dr. Monique Kademian and Jess Bodamer of Double Knot Home, on the build of the reception desk at VÉRITÉ Dermatology Boutique embodied our passion for people, craft and community. It was a joy to work alongside these talented, smart and driven women. Take a closer look at this project on our blog- we take you behind the build of this oak and brass reception desk, step by step.
The Market Italian Village
We love the way this restaurant re-imagined it's private dining space earlier this year. Working alongside our friends at Fortner, we created custom wall framing for their upholstered panels and they included our Mast stools as part of the seating in this Columbus treasure. We are excited to announce they are transforming the rest of the space for an opening in Spring 2021 and we will be doing many more components for the space. Stay tuned to see more of our work at The Market Italian Village this spring as they continue to renovate the restaurant.
Water's Edge Railing Systems
Our largest railing system to date! Covering 3 floors, we built and installed all of the railings and treads. This update helped transform the look of the space and included so many components, turns and details. Demo and install took over a week with a 4 person team but had no hiccups or issues. Perhaps that is the real highlight of 2020!
German Village Residence
A young family took on the ambitious task of converting a duplex in German Village into a single family home. It has a playful and bright design; the homeowners wanted to create a space that felt like they were on vacation when they were home. Their architect partner, Mary Dietsch, describes their style as "great taste and unafraid to take risks." Take a tour of the home on our blog.
Metal Office Doors
Perhaps the piece we got the most DM's about all year. "How much for these doors?" flooded in. When the home office unexpectedly became the most valuable space in the home this year, lots of people were trying to find ways to create privacy and separation of space. These doors provide privacy, define the space and allow all the natural light to move through the two rooms. Spoiler alert: you'll be seeing a lot more of these in the coming months on our Instagram feed.
The 600 lb Dining Table
Likely our heaviest single table ever built. The dining table, although massive, has curvy shapes which add to it's refinement. The base has cove detailing and rounded edges and we love the oval shape of the top. Working with our friends at Paul + Jo Studio to design and build this piece for a young family was such a pleasure. Memories will be shared here for decades.
Industry Columbus
Industry Columbus, a multi-family development, is all about the amenity spaces. We were grateful to be a part of such a beautiful and thoughtful building in the middle of downtown, with incredible views. Thanks to Schlegel Design Group for including us in this inspiring space. Take a floor by floor tour on our blog and check out the nerve-wracking delivery that this project required.
Nomad
This project, perhaps more than any other on this list, epitomizes the collaboration we love. Working with the most talented design team and business owners at Nomad. This space was inspired by travel and flavor and includes so many thoughtful design decisions and moments. Head to our blog for a full tour, interviews with the design team (including their favorite menu items) and to see the wide range of our capabilities displayed.
Round Dining Table
We've all been spending so much more time at home and it looks to stay that way through the winter. Having a dining table that works hard for you as a family craft area, office, school and so much more has been a 2020 essential. This dining table looks normal sized, but we assure you it is massive, with room to seat at least 8. Finished in our popular Eclipse on Ash.
Custom bathroom vanity
We just completed this vanity build and don't have photos of the finished bathroom yet, because it's not actually finished ;) But this vanity was too good to not include in the list just because we don't have fancy photos. When we recapped the year as a team, this vanity made "favorite project of the year" from 2 team members, so it's earned its place on the list.
BONUS PROJECT
We've been thrilled with your response to our growing assortment on our website. There are more sizes, a new species of wood (Maple!) and a few accessories. You can customize your own piece online and we will build it for you in 6-8 weeks. At the beginning of the year we have a fresh batch of items launching and we are excited to share it all with you and continue seeing our furniture in your spaces.
When we look back on these projects, 2020 doesn't seem so bad, right? Gratitude is the word that comes to mind when thinking about the year. Grateful to be healthy, doing what we love, with the best team on the planet and our partner and customers that make it fun and beautiful. Thanks for supporting our team, our dream and our craft.
2021 is already looking to be fantastic! We've got some incredible projects booked that we can't share just yet, and a few big announcements coming very soon and a handful of products launching on our website to add to our online offerings.
If you've got a project in mind, let's get started. You can fill out our Get A Quote form on our website and we can start building something inspiring together.
What a year indeed. Great design, incredible craftsmanship and a “can do” approach to the challenges of being a custom millwork and fabrication house (not to mention covid) makes for a unique customer focused company. Congratulations for not only surviving 2020, but demonstrating what good companies do: they care for their customers and their teams through creative collaboration. We are looking forward to the walnut Summit table we ordered and the fellowship with family and friends we will share around it for many years to come.
